One of my very first tasks as an apprentice at Directors Investment Group was to design a page where customers could upload files on their Arrangement Guide platform. Up to that point, they did not have a location to do this, and sending files between funeral directors and clients by email was inefficient and unorganized.
Since I was just starting with the company, I was given a fair amount of guidance on what they wanted for this design, but the final product is my own. I had ideas on how to make the process more visual by providing file previews, similar to Finder on Mac or File Explorer on Windows, but it was outside the scope for this project.
Instead, I went for a simple list format with the relevant information easily visible, and added a filter dropdown menu to allow customers to more easily find the file they needed, despite not having previews.
The project passed all of the required design reviews and usability testing. I ran the tests myself, with guidance from my team lead, and found that the design allowed testers to upload and find files easily.
