I finally got the opportunity to work with the product design team at DIG full time! As a full-time member of the team, I have the opportunity to invest in long-term projects and be more deeply involved in my team and the company as a whole. I am learning a lot in this larger role.
I was fortunate enough to be welcomed back at DIG for a second summer. I once again worked with the product design department, creating interfaces for their Planning Center and Passare Pro platforms. I saw designs through from the initial problem all the way to usability testing and development handoff. It was a wonderful experience, and I hope to work with them again!
I participated in the apprenticeship program at DIG, which offered valuable training and professional development to a group of students across various departments. I was trained in the importance, creation, and use of design systems, and software pertaining to design systems (such as Figma). There was an emphasis on leadership training by mentors in the program.
As a teaching assistant for my department, I was put in charge of the student-led marketing team. We primarily created content for the department's social media pages and updated the displays around our building that show exemplary student work.
I was the manager of the team, providing organizational skills and jumping in on projects wherever I was needed. I also kept track of data from various classes for the professors to reference later.
I was a research assistant first for Dr. James Prather and then Dr. Brian Burton. With Dr. Prather I primarily assisted in doing research work for research papers about HCI (Human Computer Interaction) which were accepted to the SIGCHI conference for 2021. With Dr. Burton, I researched different 3D clothing modeling software, with the goal of monetizing what I made.
I tutored for the Intro to Technology and Computing class in the SITC (Science Information Technology and Computing) department. Duties included holding tutoring hours to assist students, grading assignments, and guest lecturing for the class.
